Volunteers take care of national cemeteries for Patriot Day

(NewsNation) — Thousands of volunteers are taking care of sacred grounds and cleaning headstones at national cemeteries this weekend ahead of Patriot Day, which commemorates those who died in 9/11.

It’s all a part of Carry The Load and the National Cemetery Administration’s National Day of Service and Remembrance, set to take place at more than 60 national cemeteries across the country.

Carry The Load, a nonprofit founded in 2011 by two veteran U.S. Navy SEALS, aims to provide an “active way” to connect Americans to the military, veterans, first responders and their families, according to its website.

Volunteers Needed for Cleanup and Beautification at DFW National Cemetery

(DALLAS) The day, in collaboration with the VA National Cemetery Administration, aims to honor those who died on Sept. 11, 2001, by volunteering to clean headstones and beautify sacred grounds at one of 63 participating National Cemetery locations across the U.S.

The local clean-up in North Texas will occur at DFW National Cemetery, at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway in Dallas. The event starts at 10 a.m. Friday.

Volunteers prep Culpeper National Cemetery for 9/11’s 20th anniversary

Sept. 11, 2001, was our generation’s Pearl Harbor, Culpeper National Cemetery Director Jason Hogan says.
